Unlike previous books about bullying, this one tells us what principals and
teachers themselves think about the issue of bullying between students in schools
and what actions they are taking to counter the problem.
It is based upon the findings of a research project undertaken by the authors
in 2002 supported by a grant from the Criminology Research Council of Australia.
Interviews were conducted with principals, counsellors and teachers at 40 schools
of different kinds throughout Australia. Our brief was to enable school representatives
to give their views and describe in some detail the policies and measures their
schools had adopted. We believe that their views, recorded partly in their own
words, could be of great practical value to other schools and to many teachers
who are now addressing the problem.
The book also provides an account of what representatives from educational jurisdictions
throughout Australia think about the issue of bullying in schools and how they
are seeking to guide and assist schools.
